FAQ
Over the years, we have been helping farmers, smallholders, and animal owners with training and guidance on how to get the most out of animal homoeopathy. We have curated valuable information to help you tackle common issues and find the right solution for your circumstances. If you cannot find the answer you need below, we recommend attending one of our training courses and webinars or alternatively, you can email us for support.
HAWL FAQ
Meaning 'similar suffering', Homoeopathy is a holistic, non-intrusive form of treatment, which is personalised to the individual. It treats the whole animal, not just the immediate symptoms and is based on the principle of treating with the minimum dose and 'like treats like' i.e. a substance which causes symptoms can be used in small amounts to treat those same symptoms (for example allium sepa, which is derived from an onion, is extremely effective at treating hay fever symptoms such as watery eyes, running nose etc, similar to the effects that peeling an onion does, and coffea (coffee) can be used to treat insomnia!). This principle is also used in conventional medicine, e.g. the use of pollen in minute quantities to desensitise allergies.
People have often used the way that homeopathic remedies are made (through dilution and succussion) as a reason to discredit Homoeopathy, saying that the remedies are 'nothing but water'. Research suggests however, that the vigorous shaking (succussion) involved in the manufacturing of the remedies causes the information contained in the original substance to remain in the diluted form.
We still don't exactly understand how Homoeopathic remedies work on a molecular and cellular level, but research continues and the progresses into the world of quantum physics is promising.
Homeopathy treats the whole animal, which is one of the main differences between Homoeopathy and conventional medicine, which tends to treat individual symptoms. For example, if an animal had scours with wheezing and discharges from it's eyes, a homoeopath would seek to treat all of these with a single prescription, as opposed to prescribing 3 separate courses of treatment.
Homeopathic remedies can be administered to animals either via pills, liquid or creams. Homeopathic remedies can be sprayed straight onto the animals mucus membranes such as the muzzle, vulva etc., be placed in water troughs, administered via their mouths, in their food etc. Creams can be rubbed onto the animals wounds......there are many ways you can give an animal homeopathic remedies and we are always on hand to advise.
We at HAWL empower YOU (the farmer, smallholder, rescue centre owner, gamekeeper and other animal owner) with the knowledge to prescribe homeopathy for your own animals. We recommend buying homeopathic remedies for animals from a licensed pharmacy. In the UK there are several homeopathic pharmacies which sell homeopathic remedies (which can be used on humans and other animals):
- Ainsworths
- Crossgates
- Freemans
- Helios
There are also other homeopathic pharmacies where you can purchase homeopathic remedies for humans and animals from Ireland, mainland Europe and worldwide. Please get in touch with us if you would like homeopathic pharmacies information from outside of the UK.

Homeopathy can be used to successfully treat many different symptoms. Here at HAWL we do not teach specific remedies to treat a specific illness as this is not how homeopathy works - 2 animals can display different symptoms yet have the same names 'illness' (such as scours, orf etc) and so will need 2 different remedies. Therefore the KEY is to look for the individual symptoms and choose a remedy based on the particular symptoms that particular animal is displaying.
For example, 2 people could have 'hayfever' - brought on by standing in the same field:
- 1 has a very runny nose, watery and stinging eyes
- the other has a very dry scratchy throat and very dry eyes
So 2 very different symptoms yet the same 'named illness' of hayfever. Both these individuals would need different remedies. The same for animals, the below list however includes some of the animal illnesses and problems that homeopathic remedies can help with (please note that this list is in no way exhaustive):
- scours
- orf
- injuries and first aid situations
- stresses such as movement of animals, TB testing, new stockperson arriving, transportation of animals, arrival of new stock
- poor milk let down
- mastitis
- fevers
- birthing issues (twin lamb, ringwomb, abortions etc)
- ringworm
- changes in behaviour
- weaning issues
Yes absolutely. Whilst our course was originally designed to empower farmers to prescribe homeopathic remedies for their farm animals such as cows, sheep, pigs, goats etc, all that we teach can be applied to ANY animals, including humans! We have had students from rescue centres, equestrian centres etc and small animals pet owners such as dogs and cats etc. Please do get in touch if you have any queries.
